“Shakespeare and Media” is a course co-taught by Jonathan Senchyne and Joshua Calhoun in Fall 2016 in conjunction with the arrival of the First Folio on the UW-Madison campus. The course emphasizes how people have encountered Shakespeare’s works in multiple media over the 400 years since his death – with special attention to how media afford different possibilities for audiences. Students are challenged to use contemporary media to bring Shakespeare to the public – to move our classroom conversations out of the lecture hall – and to document the process with the hashtag #shakesconsin.
